Martha Schwartz lectures on climate change in Lithuania’s capital
On 29 April 2024 Martha will deliver a lecture in the National Gallery of Lithuania’s capital, Vilnius, on climate change and the importance of urban landscape.
The lecture discusses the reasons why most people are not aware of the impacts of climate change, in particular the issue of heat. Cities are growing and as they generate more heat and pollution, people living in urban areas, particularly those with fewer resources, are vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Integrating landscape architecture principles and ecological understanding into urban planning and design will safeguard cities and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Martha Schwartz lectures on the Linear Urban Forest
Martha delivered a lecture to the city of Springfield, Massachusetts, on the plan to create a test plot for a linear urban forest in the city. Her research, funded by the Harvard Climate Changes Solutions Fund, examines ways to make a city liveable during extreme heat. Excess street and parking space can be used for planting trees to create an urban forest
